Homes for Our Troops
Missouri Credit Unions Make the Difference

Missouri credit unions have an opportunity to demonstrate the credit union difference and help build a specially adapted home in Missouri for Staff Sergeant (SSG) Robert Canine. SSG Canine lost both legs below the knee when his Humvee was bombed in Baghdad, Iraq on May 17, 2009. After a year of rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, SSG Canine, his wife Jennifer and their eight-year-old son Sebastian will move back to Missouri.

We are teaming up with Homes for Our Troops - a non-profit group started four years ago to help build specially adapted homes for severely injured members of the military returning from service in Afghanistan and Iraq. Credit unions teamed up with Homes for Our Troops to build homes in Denver and Minneapolis in conjunction with the Democratic and Republican National Conventions this summer, and the response was overwhelming.

The Missouri Credit Union Association has signed an agreement with Homes for Our Troops to build two homes in Missouri. Each home requires a commitment of $100,000.

This effort was in response to Mid Missouri Credit Union’s challenge to the rest of our state’s credit unions to show everyone in the country what the “Show-Me” state can do. It will take all Missouri credit unions to make the difference in this effort.
